Automotive supplier Visteon engaged SmithGroupJJR to plan and design a major consolidation of its dispersed assets. It centered on a community-style work environment bringing together research, administrative and strategic departments in order to increase efficiency, innovation and productivity -- all stimulating creativity and growth.
The design team's novel planning concept organized the new campus into a workplace village designed to foster employee well-being and satisfaction, with a manmade lake and dedicated spaces for informal gatherings and individual contemplation. Human-scaled structures, mostly three stories or less, present welcoming aspects such as pitched roofs, brick and stone walls, and plenty of glass. Daylight and outdoor views abound, and half of the offices enjoy a lake view.
Cost-saving innovations include underfloor air distribution, SmithGroupJJR’s patented linear grill, and illumination that consumes only 1 watt per square foot. Most helpful, the planning allowed the client flexibility to lease out space to other organizations, which helped Visteon as they found space requirements changing.
