Description

To boost its impact as a state economic engine, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is collaborating with public partners and private developers to create a mega-event stadium, a dynamic mixed-use student village, and increased student housing venues. As part of a comprehensive campus master plan update to expand and enhance campus in support of academic and research goals, these new market-driven partnerships are reshaping the higher education landscape in Las Vegas.  The plan, led by SmithGroupJJR, challenges conventional development models, and creatively capitalizes on one of world’s premier entertainment destinations, while not losing sight of the institution’s fundamental principle to become an institution of choice in the region

The master plan update builds upon principles established in the firm’s 2004 plan, continuing SmithGroupJJR’s longstanding commitment to UNLV. The plan affirms UNLV’s goals of serving the broader community and ensuring campus space is used wisely, efficiently, and sustainably, while providing a high-quality educational environment. All of the firm’s planning and design work for UNLV has embraced the region's high-desert landscape, emphasizing sustainable architecture and resource conservation. Broad, engaged input from students, faculty, staff, and community partners—public and private—have established strong consensus for this innovative vision for UNLV’s future.
