PRIDE Awards - Design Excellence Award, On the Boards
Sited at the core of the University of Arizona’s research precinct along the north entry into the campus, the Engineering Innovation Building creates an iconic STEM facility for the College of Engineering that enables the university to remain a world leader in engineering research. It is organized by research area rather than by engineering discipline. The building will mix students, faculty, and industry partners into a single, flexible, next-generation educational and research environment.
The facility provides research/innovation labs and offices for advanced manufacturing, materials modeling and fabrication, energy storage, biomedical engineering and infrastructure monitoring/design. The Student Innovation Center houses maker space, classrooms, study areas and other student functions. A corridor elegantly links these two building functions, with shared visualization rooms, collaborative space, and kitchen/break areas. Outdoor terraces and balconies provide additional interaction space. By blurring the lines between student and professional engineers, the facility improves the university’s competitiveness to attract top faculty and students.
Where Big Ideas Come to Life
The new building will be the most transformative project in the history of engineering at the University of Arizona.
