In the heart of Colorado's ski resort country, the Town of Dillon's marina is the second highest altitude marina in the world. Located on the shore of the Dillon Reservoir, the marina is an important catalyst for the summer tourism economy and hosts a renowned annual sailing regatta. Using a community-based planning process, SmithGroupJJR crafted a plan strengthening the connection between Dillon's Town Center and its waterfront while providing needed marina improvements, including a new wharf and dock system, an improved access road and parking, and new pedestrian paths and park amenities.
The plan creatively addressed the extreme, 40-foot water level fluctuations of Dillon Reservoir, which is also one of Denver's primary water sources. The proposed wharf structure, floating dock system and waterfront restaurant (sited on the floating dock) solve the challenging structural needs while creating a new community social hub and preserving the Reservoir's pristine water quality.
