With over 25 years of experience designing and managing projects, Tom’s portfolio reads like an itinerary from The Amazing Race: a mixed use airport office complex in St. Petersburg, Russia, beach resorts in Abu Dhabi, hotels in Honolulu, a national park lodge high in the Sierras, and on it goes. “I would’ve never imagined spending so much time in Asia and the Middle East,” he says of his career. “It has exposed me to an amazing array of great places and people.” As a Design Principal at SmithGroupJJR’s Dallas office, he has no intention of slowing down now. “There are always new opportunities out there, a great new puzzle to solve,” says Tom. And should he find a little extra free time, he’d like to explore New Zealand and Australia, which dovetails nicely with another item on his wish list. “I’ve had a little exposure to surfing, but I’d really like to learn it and be proficient.”
