With 31 years of experience, Rick contributes an array of talents to SmithGroupJJR. His most notable project experience has been in the design and construction of biomedical research facilities at Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco. In recent years, he has transitioned into a lead role in the firm's corporate information technology team as Manager of Technology in Practice. His responsibilities include guiding the use of IT resources, including Newforma Project Center, computer aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM). "I'm interested in the use of computer technology to advance our practice," he says. "I think it's likely that new technology will continue to serve as a catalyst for profound changes in the building design industry" For many, technology might mean a way to avoid a troublesome commute. But It's hard to beat Rick's route to work: a ferry ride across San Francisco Bay.
