Based in SmithGroupJJR's Chicago office, Paul is the firm's go-to guy for collegiate athletics and community recreation projects. He has worked on a wide range of master planning and implementation projects for college campuses, ranging from NCAA athletic fields to iconic campus open spaces. Paul says he has always liked to build, and grew up thinking he would like to be a carpenter, then later, an architect. "But during my first year of study, I was introduced to landscape architecture," he explains. "The synergy between design, nature and ecology attracted me to the profession." Paul's work has made him something of a synthetic turf expert. Thanks to its sustainable and cost benefits, Paul notes that turf is finding use beyond the ball fields. When he heads home, however, he digs in the dirt. "My hobbies are gardening in the day—hot peppers are my favorite—and astronomy during the night."
